Accommodation

All treatments are done in Special Hospital Naftalan located in Ivanić Grad, close to Zagreb, capital city of Croatia, 20 minutes drive from the Zagreb airport.

Special Hospital Naftalan has a capacity of 137 beds, 26 out of which are luxury. All the rooms are high standard to make the stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Every floor has a nurses’ room and a consulting room, and the 6th floor has a living room for rest or entertainment. On fair days, the visitors have a sunbathing area at their disposal. The restaurant for the patients and the guests is found on the 5th floor.

All the areas are air-conditioned, and modern, comfortable apartments, single and double bed en-suite rooms on the 6th floor are equipped with satellite TV, a telephone, wireless Internet and a refrigerator.  In the atrium, a café bar is located, as well as an Internet café and a store with various items, including a selection of Naftalan cosmetic products. Accommodation in a double-room with full board.

In the close surroundings of Naftalan, a promenade next to the Lonja River is located, as well as a sports’ complex, where visitors can book a term for tennis, running or another activity.

Luxury apartments are equipped with a bedroom, a living room and a bathroom with a tub - are meant for visitors who wish to enjoy elegant decoration or need more comfort. We took care that every detail in the room contributes to a visitor’s complete relaxation.

Description of therapies

Physical therapy and treatment

During the medical rehabilitation and treatment, the patient undergoes the therapies set in the psoriasis treatment program and inflammatory rheumatic diseases treatment program. The most important physical medicine therapies included in the programs are:

Naphthalan therapy

Naphthalan therapy is conducted by applying a rare therapeutic type of naphthenic oil - naphthalan in modern medicine, for treating certain skin and rheumatic diseases. Naphthalan, the natural mineral oil, is a natural therapeutic agent. It does not cause skin irritation and is not cancerogenic.

Besides its mechanical and thermal effect, naphthalan also has a significant bioactive effect on the body. Naphthalan's anti-inflammatory effect works on patients with skin and rheumatic diseases. In case of inflammatory rheumatism, reduction of inflammatory activity, reduction of swelling and redness, alleviation of pain, improvement of the general condition, and reduced intensity and shortened duration of "morning stiffness".

Naphthalan therapy is used in skin diseases (psoriasis, neurodermitis) and in the diseases of the musculoskeletal system (inflammatory rheumatic diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and nonarticular rheumatism).

Naphthalan can be applied as follows: General application of the naphthalan therapy through:

• naphthalan baths in the bath tub
• applying naphthalan to the entire body.

When taking the naphthalan bath, the patient is immersed in the naphthalan oil medium at the temperature of 34 to 38°C up to his/her shoulders, in the duration of 8 to 14 minutes. The patient is covered with naphthalan and exposed to UVA - UVB lamp light in the duration of 15 to 20 minutes.

Sonophoresis

Naphthalan is applied as the contact medium between the ultrasound probe and the targeted body area. Application of the sonophoresis onto small hand and feet joints is performed in a naphthalan bath into which the ultrasound probe is immersed.

Masticotherapy

A crude solid preparation containing 30% naphthalan, a mixture of paraffin, wax and camphor is applied as a compress or by dipping into dissolved media, as with paraffin application. This thermotherapy procedure results in an extremely prolonged thermal effect and a very pleasant reaction.

This therapy yields specific rehabilitation effects even in case of inflammatory rheumatism because pain is alleviated, swelling is reduced, muscle tension is relaxed and the previously limited range of motion is increased.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is carried out in a pool filled with thermomineral water. Water is extracted from the depth of 1,300 m. As regards its chemical composition and balneological classification, it is salty water which contains minerals, iodine, sodium-chloride, etc.

The main balneological active agent is NaCl in the concentration of 1.37 %, and the other is heat. Water temperature at the source is 60oC and in the pool, after it has been cooled, about 34oC. Exercises with physical therapist's supervision are carried out in the pool which can be used for free recreation and bathing in the afternoons and weekends.

Medical gymnastics (kinesitherapy)

As part of medical therapy, as group or individual medical gymnastics with physical therapist's supervision. Medical gymnastics - carried out in the gym equipped with the necessary accessories. Since kinesitherapy is very important in rehabilitation, the Hospital pays special attention to this segment.
